ALAN JONES SPEAKS OPENLY ON HIS VIEW ON HOMOSEXUALITY

Jones agreed to speak to a gay, lesbian and transgender publication to discuss his views on the issue. He told SX magazine, which is published by the Gay News Network, that young people understood sexuality better than the older generation.

“There is nothing wrong with people feeling that their sexuality is ‘a’ and someone else’s is ‘b’,” he said.

“Now the young ones understand that you don’t make choices about this, it just happens”.

The comments came as a surprise to the magazine, which quoted Roy Morgan Research that 46 per cent of Jones’s 2GB listeners believe homosexuality is immoral – compared with 35 per cent of all Australians.

Jones was being interviewed for his role in the new production of Annie, but the journalist quickly turned the conversation towards the higher rates of attempted suicide among young members of the homosexual community.

“Well, I think for a start we are still living in a fairly hypocritical environment,” he said.

“On the one hand we say, sexuality is not an issue. Gender is not an issue. Equality is everything.

“And yet if someone happens to have the courage to say that they’re gay, suddenly they’re described as a gay artist or gay whatever”.
