Zimbabwe’s First Lady Grace Mugabe has joined the bandwagon of homophobic leaders after she recently condemned homosexuality as ‘taboo and satanic’.Addressing a gathering in Mashonaland Central at a handover ceremony of foodstuffs in an Orphanage at Madziwa Business Centre, the first lady, not to be outdone by her husband, used the opportunity to divert people’s
attention from the main purpose of the event.
Commenting on the constitutional process currently underway, the first lady urged villagers to participate in the constitution process but was quick to point out that they should not support homosexual rights.
She described homosexuality as foreign and being influenced by foreigners.
“You heard about the constitution and let us contribute, but do not support the recognition of homosexuals’ so called rights.
“It is taboo to our culture and Satan will have defeated us if we accept it. The constitution should be in accordance with our culture and homosexuality is foreign to us.”
The President of Zimbabwe is on record for his homophobic tirades and using the issue of homosexuality to divert people’s attention from the real economic, and political issues affecting them.

What has food parcels for children have to do with homosexuality. There is need to get with the program and stop this political charade for gains with masses who have so much more to worry about issues poverty and not otherwise. Diverting people’s attention is cruel and a calculated way of deceiving people. As usual homosexuality is used by all african politicians to bring them into the spotlight and as much as it is great journalism to inform about these issues and I think that
there is need to investigate further in such a story why Homosexuality is relevant to the story. We need better journalism in this issue urgently.
This is really sad actually. With all the issues that are facing Africa as a whole let alone humanity, i just dont understand why we shifting from the real problem. I have to agree with the previous comment that Homosexuality is irrelevant to this story, and the fact that homosexuality is not Africa and not Godly. How many years of struggle must we put up with people judging us like this. I believe in God and at jusgement when he asks me why i lived my life the way i have, I’ll stand up with pride and say “I am your creation. And proud of it”, with the Joburg Pride 2010 being Africa for all, I am an Africa, lesbian woman, and proud to be who i am.
I am perturbed and not surprised by the likes of Ms. Mugabe. Lest we forget that this is a woman who has no class and had an affair with a married man. Yeah I said it…..you were having an affair with president, bra Robert. Mrs Mugabe you need to get off your ridiculous high horse and stop spreading hate and fear.
The focus should be how to get Zimbabwe out of the rut that it is in right now!
She has just heard these words from her husband, she doesnt know what she is talking about, thats all.
Honestly, what has food parcels has to do with homosexuality..? There is fear in that family or maybe country seeing that Bob himself is gay( as far as I’m concerned). Lets support our sistaz and brotherz in that country and pray for them as well.
Im lesbian and proud.
You are right gogo…:)>>>>>
She must just give people food and stop worrying about things that cannot change. We are here to stay. We are not going anywhere, with or without their constitution. Viva the dykes and fags of Zim..Solidarity always…
